Flow Sim / Heat Analysis for CPU Waterblock
Comparing waterblock geometry and material choices for CPU cooling using transient thermal and fluid simulation.
Project Details / Background
This thermal engineering project evaluated how waterblock geometry and material composition impact CPU cooling effectiveness, comparing three configurations: an aluminum waterblock with no fins, an aluminum waterblock with fins, and a silver waterblock with fins. Each design was tested using transient Solidworks thermal and fluid simulations to determine the average CPU temperature over a 120 second period.
For each configuration I modeled the geometry, configured the simulation, and ran the analysis, producing fluid temperature distribution maps, solid material temperature analysis, and CPU temperature progression graphs to compare thermal performance across the three designs.
